Making Appetizers For Kids

Whether you are catering for a kids' party or you just want to make sure there are enough tasty options for the younger guests at your next get-together, knowing how to make appetizer recipes for kids is important.
There are easy party appetizers for everybody and the important thing is having a good selection so if some people do not like spicy food, for example, and a couple are vegetarians then there are still easy appetizers for them to enjoy as well. Look for more of baked appetizers for parties.


With kids, the aim is to keep things simple. Kids will not appreciate elegant, fancy appetizer recipes, nor will they be impressed with anything spicy or too bitter or sour. Younger kids tend to favor sweet flavors and they are also happier eating foods they are familiar with.

A Few Appetizer Recipe Ideas
You can make some very simple appetizers by topping toast or crackers with cheese and turkey. Add some mayonnaise or cranberry sauce for flavor. You can also serve cookies and cakes at a buffet so the kids will have some sweet options as well. Chips and dips are nice and you can use fresh vegetables in the dip recipes to make them healthier. What about making a crockpot cheese and spinach dip or a mushroom and tomato dip?

Older kids tend to be a little more adventurous with food than younger ones and if they see, the adults enjoying something new they might want to try it too. Just be careful if you are using alcohol in any of the recipes or using a lot of chilies. Not many kids like highly spicy food!

Recipe for Rice Balls with a Fruity Dip
This is a very tasty recipes and kids usually love it. As an added bonus, you can sneak a whole can of mixed vegetables into these rice balls! If you prefer to deep fry these, you will need to preheat some oil in a deep fryer to 375 degrees F and fry them in batches for about a minute. Serve them as finger food or with toothpicks.

What you will need:
  • 8 1/4 oz can drained, mixed vegetables
  • 1 1/2 cups warm cooked rice
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 3/4 cup finely crushed rice cereal
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cans mixed fruit in juice, semi-drained (4 oz each)
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooking spray
How to make them:Puree the egg, garlic, vegetables, and Worcestershire sauce in a blender or food processor, and then transfer the mixture to a bowl. Add the cheese, rice, salt, and pepper and stir well. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Shape tablespoon-sized balls of the rice mixture and roll them in the crushed rice cereal. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray some cooking spray on it. Arrange the balls on the foil and spray more cooking oil over them.

Bake the rice balls for fifteen minutes or until they are golden brown, then let them cool down for ten or fifteen minutes. Puree the fruit in juice with the vinegar and tomato paste in a blender or food processor and serve this dip with the warm rice balls.
